“Dressage is the poetry of communication — the art of listening as much as speaking. In this quiet dialogue, clarity gives the horse a voice, and horse and rider become one.”

Meet Tine Zinglersen

Tine Zinglersen rode her first horse, a Shetland pony, at just three years old on a farm outside Copenhagen, Denmark. Since then, she has built an international career as an FEI dressage rider, trainer, and USDF Bronze, Silver, and Gold Medalist. A world-ranked dressage rider for several decades, Tine has competed successfully at the Grand Prix level and continues to develop both horses and riders toward their highest potential. Throughout her career she has clinicked and trained with many prolific dressage trainers including Robert Dover, Juan Matute Guimon Sr., Carl Hester, and currently trains with Christophe Theallet.

Based out of the beautiful Ellerslie Stables in Rhinebeck, New York, Tine works with a diverse group of clients—from amateurs to professionals—and has guided many riders from basic dressage skills through Grand Prix.

Tine's Training Philosophy

Well known in the industry for her compassionate, horse-centered philosophy, Tine emphasizes happy communication between horse and rider. Her training approach focuses on kindness, the classical training pyramid, and correct fundamentals that create confident, willing, and harmonious partnerships. She works with all types of horses, from traditional Warmbloods and Iberians to Morgans, Thoroughbreds, POAs, and more, proving that every horse can learn the language of dressage.

In addition to specializing in dressage training in New York, Tine has also helped hunter/jumper riders, eventers, and western riders improve their communication, balance, and effectiveness. Whether the goal is competitive success or a deeper partnership, her teaching style empowers both horse and rider to grow together.

    Client Testimonials

I have been training under Tine's tutelage since 2020, in which she helped guide me towards taking my western-trained Thoroughbred cross from barely Training Level to schooling Third Level and to my USDF Bronze Medal in 4 years. Even with my goal of my Bronze Medal in mind, she always kept the horse's happiness and wellbeing and the forefront of our training, and understanding when we could push for more or step back and ensure the basics were correct.

Now with my 2021 gelding, Clark, her training philosophy has been integral as I bring my first horse up through the levels. She reminds me with every lesson that while ambition and goals are great to have, the horse’s relaxation, trust, and happiness must come first in order to have continued success both in and out of our dressage sandbox.

Tine is a true horsewoman that respects all horses and riders no matter the discipline or breed and it is both an honor and a privilege to be a part of her program.

An ode to Tine Zinglersen, the best coach a girl could ask for.

This weekend, I won my very first blue ribbon for a dressage test. First level (I.e., beginners).

For most eventers, dressage is just a conduit to cross country. It definitely was for me. I almost always finished last after dressage for a variety of reasons, but mostly because I hated it. Less than 2 years ago, I was riding La Condesa, and she was rearing and otherwise being spicy as ever when Tine, my mom’s trainer at the time, said from across the ring “I wanna ride that one.” I agreed to let her, with the caveat that she would never turn me into a Dressage Queen. Well, now I would like nothing more than to achieve that status. Tine is the most patient, loving, kind, brave, understanding teacher I have ever had (in any subject). She saw something in La Condesa when others said she was dangerous. She gave her love and compassion when others would have walked away. She taught me the art and beauty of the discipline which is so much more technical, challenging, and necessary than I understood.

Here’s to correctness, perseverance, and many more blue ribbons. I am so grateful!
